Alternative rock singer/songwriter John Vanderslice will be performing tonight in the quaint lodgings of Babeville's Ninth Ward. With a soft-spoken voice and commanding stage presence, the Gainesville, Florida native has that rare ability to draw his audience's attention to the lyrics without neglecting the thought provoking and constantly changing song structure. Vanderslice is also no stranger to a well thought-out concept album. In the past, Vanderslice's has crafted albums that reference the 9/11 attacks, a factious lawsuit from Microsoft, and even an entire LP devoted to the Green Zone in Iraq. When you can create music as deep and layered as Vanderslices', its no wonder that he's best buddies with The Mountain Goats and former tour partners with Sufjan Stevens, The Morning Benders & St. Vincent. Opening for Vanderslice tonight will be Type-Nelson, one of our favorite new Buffalo bands of 2011. The show starts promptly at 8pm and tickets are 17 bucks!
