I love live music DVDs but had never gone to the movie theater to see one.... but now that they are coming out in 3D.... I decided to check it out. You can always count on Phish to put on a good show, even in a movie theater (they're live stream of their "final" shows at Coventry were a huge success) I expected some dancing or maybe even clapping in the theater but this wasn't the case (except for my row). There is no doubt that going to the movie theater to see a live concert film is NOTHING to seeing a band live... but it sure beats a night of flipping through the channels avoiding the real housewives of new jersey.
The footage for the film is from this years Halloween festival in Indio, California divided into three parts. The first section was a some great performances of their classic songs... Mike's Song stealing the show. Second was an intimate (for us in the theater... I'm guessing not so much for the 50,000 fans in the hot sun) day-time acoustic set. Ending the film was footage of the banding covering the Rolling Stone's Exile in Main Street with Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings backing them up. Sharon's amazing.... especially when she stayed on stage for Suzy Greenberg.
Tonight is the last night to see Phish 3D at the McKinley Mall. You should definitely check it out if you enjoy Phish... its a nice break seeing them without those damn dirty hippies dancing too close and hitting you in the face with glow sticks. Plus you get to wear really cool 3D glasses.
