Review: You Can Be A Wesley

Its a shame nobody ever goes to Nobody's.  There are some really good shows there that deserve a larger crowd.  In a way, the place is a lot like ballpark for a minor league farm team. Its a charming place for up and coming bands to master their craft and hone their skills while they wait for the call up to the big leagues(the Town Ballrooms or Tralf's or even Shea's of the world). Well this past Sunday, You Can Be A Wesley played a show at the friendly confines of Nobody's, and to continue on with the baseball analogy, they hit a grand slam! By the third song everyone was standing up, dancing, hula hooping, or jumping on a pogo stick. As band leader Saara Untracht-Oakner put it "it was like a show within a show at a show".  The sound mix was near studio perfect and every cymbal crash, guitar solo, or bass riff reverberated with a crystal clear authority.  At times it was reminiscent of early Smashing Pumpkins. Other times it sounded more like the recent surf pop of The Drums or Best Coast.  The band seemed to feel at home playing at Nobody's, which is more like a house than a music venue anyways, so I guess it only seems fitting.  One can only hope this Boston quartet returns to the City of Good Neighbors soon because it wont be long before they get the call up.
