Album of the Week: Pretty Lights

Earlier this year Derek Vincent Smith a.k.a Pretty Lights, set out to release three new EP's on set dates throughout the year.  His newest effort entitled "Spilling Over Every Side" was released this past Tuesday and didn't fail to impress.  Smith wrote a little blurb about the album on his website giving fans a little insight on what he was going for with this album.  He wanted to keep his roots but add a few new flavors that he had not experimented with too much as of yet.  For this release, Smith went with a more soulful feel but then spices each track up with some more electro than his previous albums.  He even went as far as to dabble in some dubstep, most noticeably on "High School Art Class" and "Let The World Hurry By".  This EP is most certainly worth a listen and as always is available for free at http://www.prettylightsmusic.com/.

  1. What is the big freaking deal about dubstep? can someone explain this to me?

  2. I have only listened to half the ep...but the dubstep use seems to be a lot more well incorporated into songs than you typically find in the genre...There is an absence of the usual monotony in dubstep...the word that comes to my mind is tasteful
