This Monday, Buffalo's favorite pysch-pop band the birD day will open for The Besnard Lakes & Wintersleep. We recently caught up with band co-founder Julian Kowalski and talked about the process of making a record, combat boots and Seinfield among other things.
buffaBLOG: You guys are a relatively young band. How long did it take you to find 'your' sound?
the birD day: Jay and I started writing about a year and a half ago. Throughout that time period we have molded a small idea into a full on band. It's been a relatively short time frame but it was more a hobby to us in the beginning and something we truly loved to spend our free time doing.
buffaBLOG. Collect Vibrations is very polished piece of work. Take us through the recording process. How long did it take to make the album? Where there any complications or problems that arose while creating it?
the birD day: The recording process was all over the place for this album. We tracked some drums over at GCR audio w/ Jay Zubricky then ended up recording the rest of it at our practice space or in Jay's bedroom. We ended up mixing it ourselves and sent it out to West West Side for mastering. It took us a few months to do it all but we were in the groove and had a blast doing it.
buffaBLOG: you guys are starting to get more popular everyday. who are some other buffalo bands we should be paying attention too?
the birD day: We aren't super involved in the Buffalo scene but we love to see acts trying new things. Hopefully we can spark some creativity and get some more bands to open different doors. I'm digging what the Arctic Death dudes are up to and hopefully we will see more bands sprout up in the future! buffaBLOG: Aside from music what are some other your other interest/hobbies/day jobs/creative outlets?
the birD day: In our free time we love to vibe out~~~~~~~~Jays into making great food, we like Seinfeld/ Todd hooks us up with great beer at Panos/ I work at the Library & read/ Gabes a crazy-awesome artist/ Pat is straight hilarious and rocks combat boots.
