Wow, what a weekend. Seriously, considering all the activities available it would have been hard pressed to have a bad time. Friday started things off on a great note with some fantastic tunes courtesy of Love Scenes. The electro-pop duo covered the XX and the new song 'layers' had us in a dance trance. The party continued to Nietzsche's with Bradfornikus providing the perfect drinking music. Although the band was supposed to pick a new name, we left the bar before the official announcement and aren't exactly sure what they're called now. The night ended across the street at DBGB's where the Friction dance party made the floor seem like it was bouncing and the good times would never end.
On Saturday, it was off to The Buffalo Powder Keg festival to embrace the one thing that most people around the world associate with our city. Snow. Mother Nature did her part with a perfect temperature balance that wasn't to cold nor too warm. This years Powder Keg was more spread out and allowed for slightly more elbow room. Our vote for the best snowman had to go to the Snowman Ghostbusters shooting a giant Snow Marshmallow Man. The artistic Ice sculptures and wood carvings were also enjoyable to watch and just a tad more dangerous to create. Aqueous provided some great jams including the Grateful Dead cover 'Franklin's Tower'. From there it was just a short walk to the Labatt Blue Pond Hockey Tournament where the fire pits were warm and the beer flowed freely(well, it was only a dollar).
By Comparison, Sunday was a walk in the park. We ended the weekend with a return to pearl street for an exciting Sabres game(at least there was 13 goals they only lost in OT) and a few games of Turkey bowling at the Winter Fest. Then it was back home for some much needed rest and relaxation & the Grammy's, which ended up being better than expected(hooray for AF!). It was a shame we didn't get the chance to check out the Buffalo Auto Show or see Son of the Sun rock Mohawk, but in all, I think we saw more than enough to declare this weekend a success.
