A few weeks ago, we received a cryptic email from someone calling themselves Jeremy Jermaine Jerome. The email in question was comprised of just one sentence, "Hope this will complete the task" and a link to a music video titled "Just Ending Now - Integrate". Curious, I clicked the video hoping for something that would fulfill my attention span for at least 30 seconds. Well, 20 minutes and 4 replays later I knew I had stumbled onto something special.
In my interpretation, the video looks to be some sort of visual and lyrical introspection of the city of Buffalo. Many of the videos scenes display the city's famous urban decay (the central terminal, the east side?) and are matched with lyrics that touch on everything from fashion to porn star Sasha Gray. JJJ himself is like this mullet wearing, patriotic flag waving Weird Al-Outkast lovechild. He's a wild man that runs, jumps and prowls the junk yard looking for something to break. It's the kind of thing where you laugh out at loud while bouncing your head to the undeniably catchy beat.
After searching around the Internet for a few minutes I came across his website. Like everything else JJJ related, the website is mysterious, cryptic and flat out weird. Each page consist of obscure family portraits and random pictures of Buffaloes and religious imagery. The debut album NAN is streaming on the front page and is definitely worth a listen.
When I contacted JJJ to ask for more information, he replied with a long ranting tangent that was surprisingly very eloquent. Although it wasn't exactly filled with many concrete facts I did learn that the man splits time between Buffalo and North Carolina, has very high ambitions goals in life. He also finds inspiration in everything from Extreme Championship Wrestling to Nelson Mandela.
I don't know if Jeremy Jermaine Jerome will ever become famous, but I will be watching either way.
