Brooklyn folk-rock sextet, The Loom, bring their banjo lovin', trumpet playing, acoustic thunder tonight to The Vault. With hand claps & french horns the band sometimes reminds me of Calexico. Other times the sparse drumming & lightly sprinkled acoustic guitar gives the impression of a poor mans Fleet Foxes or Iron & Wine. Either way, the band clearly has a talent for balancing the soft elements of folk with the louder and more abrasive elements of rock'n'roll. Since releasing their debut EP At Last Light in 2008, the band has toured extensively, showcasing their talents at CMJ & SXSW while also playing along side major acts The Anters & Local Natives. With their debut album on its way and a recent appearance on the Daytrotter sessions, 2011 is looking to be a break out year for The Loom. Its a real refreshing thing to find a folk-rock band that's not afraid to play loud. Also playing tonight is Christopher Paul Stelling, Jim Colby & Horbett. Cover is only 5 bucks!
