Spotlight: FYFE

Woman.Woman. Cover Art
A few month's back, we wrote about a great compilation sampler from Steak & Cake Records, a local label that sets up shop over on Potomac Street.  Just last month, the label released their first local release from electronic artist FYFE.  Reminding me a bit electronica band Dntel and of course a little Air, the Woman Woman LP offers a great mix of ambient noises, synths, folky finger picking, and enough bass and drums to give the songs a great beat.  I have had a hard time getting past my favorite track, the album opener, "Carl", but the rest of the album is quite impressive.  The shortest track, "Do-Me, Neumie", barely runs one and a half minutes, but manages to have a robust drum beat and the usual layered electronics.

FYFE's Woman Woman LP can be listened to entirely over at Steak & Cake's website.  They are also offering the album for sale at the always great "name your price" offer.  Those who download the LP will also receive the 5 track B-side.  12 songs that cost you whatever you like is not a deal you see everyday.  No word yet if FYFE will be playing any local shows, but you can be sure we will let you know if and when they are announced.
