A decade ago, Micheal Azerrad's book Our Band Could Be Your Life was released. The book chronicles the beginnings of independent rock and should be required reading for anyone checking out our blog. To pay homage to the book, The Bowery Ballroom hosted a concert a couple of days ago that was filled to brim of lucky hipsters eager to see 14 of today's best indie rock bands cover songs from 13 of yesteryear's best indie bands. The Dirty Projectors performed songs by Black Flag, Grooms played a little Husker Du, and Titus Andronicus payed homage to The Replacements. But the performance of the night had to go to St. Vincent who payed tribute to punk visionaries Big Black. Anne Clark takes a stab at Big Black's "Kerosene" with wonderfully dark results. The cover is a frightening spoken word rant complete with intentional ear-splitting feed back and furiously constant drums. It's super intense and impossible to resist.

Well that music event was special no doubt. That music was amazing. "Our Band Could Be Your Life" should prove to be an incredible read.
