We're getting pretty giddy about this weekend's Bidwell Indie 5000. After all, there aren't many music festivals in Buffalo that focus on our city's rich indie rock music scene. In an effort to get everyone else as excited as us, we've compiled this short list of 4 songs we hope to hear live this Sunday. It was a tough task to pick just 4 songs from 12 different bands, but we think these are the best of the best.
4. Badmilk - "Souls"Badmilk is a band that is still relatively new to us. They only played one show at this summer's Infringement Festival, but that one show received rave reviews and turned more than few heads in the local music scene. The band's EP has been on constant rotation in our stereos and "Souls" might just be our favorite song.

3. Bill Times a Billion - "Cleanest Pick"Probably the slowest song in this two piece band's catalog, "Cleanest Pick" is also the most uplifting. Most likely due to the bright trumpet solo toward the end that has echos of Bright Eye's I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning. A triumphant number about a guitar pick stuck in a washing machine that reminds us of the simpler things in life.

2. The NYBRKFST - "My House is a Broken Home" This interesting number from the NYBRKFST is part Death Cab for Cutie, part Shins with a bit of thriller novel lyrics. Simplistic in nature, the song is balanced between soft vocals and clackity drums with some sparse guitar work that fills in between the lines. The atmospheric sirens and lyrical content give it some bonus points for it's frightening beauty.

1. Nick Gordon - "End of the Century"Nick Gordon has been a staple of the Buffalo music scene for quite a few years now. Whether it be his work in London Vs New York or his numerous solo gigs, the man has made his presence known. But if there is one song we hope we hear live it would be his contribution to the Harvestsum compilation released last year. "End of the Century" is a soft finger snapping tune perfect for a lazy Sunday afternoon in the park.
