Art Park's love affair with indie rock continues tonight as the uber literate, frequently whimsical folk act, The Decemberists, led by singer and songwriter Colin Meloy, are set to play the Lewiston venue. Forming in 2000 in Portland, Oregon, the band was always a chore for me to listen to at times as their sometimes long winded tunes, some of which reached double digits in length, wore at my patience and never allowed me to dive deep into the band's recordings. Their latest album, though, 2011's The King is Dead changed matters for me. In their most accessible album to date, the indie folk band went country, well alt-country that is, with an album full of Neil Young, Uncle Tupelo, and REM influenced college rock twang. Tickets for tonight's Decemberists show at Art Park are still available for $34. Fellow Pacific North Westerners The Head & The Heart will open. Show starts at 7:00pm.
