Tonight: One Hundred Dollars

Canadian imports, One Hundred Dollars, have been making vintage country rock since 2006, but for whatever reason the Toronto six piece (sometimes 7) hasn't blown up in the states quite yet. That may change now that Songs of A Man, the band's latest LP, is starting to make its way through the blogosphere. Using your typical alt-country instruments (your pedal steel guitars, acoustic guitars, organs) the band weaves its way through that same country path fellow Canadian Neil Young paved so long ago without sounding the least bit dated. Lead singer Simone Schmidt has that powerful, experienced voice of someone who has seen it all and been through it all. Part Janis Joplin, part Neko Case, Schmidt's vocals can be soft but they always command your attention. Opening the tonight's show at Soundlab will be the local talents of Sonny Baker, Nick Gordon, and Thor. Cover is only 5 bucks and doors open at 8.
