The Static Jacks are a rising dive bar anthem slinging four-piece based out of Westfield, NJ. Over the weekend I got a hold of their second album, If You’re Young and I have been hooked. It’s literally the only album I’ve listened to for three days straight. While brainstorming a way to describe the Jacks, I found on their facebook page they were influenced by “teenage suburban angst,” which is absolutely 100% what I hear while listening to them. Ian Devaney’s gritty vocals (think Tim Kasher of Cursive meets Keith Murray We are Scientists with a dash of Adam Thompson of We Were Promised Jetpacks) combined with garage punk influences make If You’re Young a staple in everyone’s best of 2011 countdown. Their repertoire is full of songs that make you want to grab your friends by the shoulders and scream the lyrics in their faces while hopped up on PBR’s. It’s 11 a.m. and I want to do this right now. With fall dates opening for Tapes ‘n Tapes, including a gig at Babeville on September 21st, the Static Jacks will be a name everyone is talking about. Watch out Hold Steady, direct competition for your target listenership is right around the corner.
