Greetings from Outer Space! Last Saturday, along with many others, I was blasted out of the stratosphere by what a splendid success and all around great time the DJs from Outer Space was. Thank you to the organizers and to the Ukrainians who put up with our crazy asses. I have to say that it definitely took me a whole day to recover. It probably didn’t help that we went hard with Just Crit at FRICTION the night prior. But nonetheless last weekend was a true representation of the Dance and Electronic music stranglehold over the Buffalo underground. The upcoming week of shows and parties will only further that outlook and TDMReport is previewing it all for the fans. Music is Art is back and full, I mean full, of DJs. And we have a few big name acts gracing BLO with their presence in the next seven days. Brace yourselves, because going hard isn’t easy. Below is where it’s at...
thursday 9/15
SHLOMO & SALVA

10p-4a
21+
DBGB’S
253 allen st. Buffalo, NY
Appearing tonight at Duke’s will be SHLOHMO and SALVA, two producers from Cali with a flare for the original. I saw Shlomo at Soundlab open for Dadleus and Tokimonsta and I have to say I was very impressed with Henry Laufer. He takes alot from free-form jamming which I imagine he does frequently as practice. His productions are atmospheric and effervescent. I’m excited to see what he has in store tonight, in such an intimate and loud space. Salva, who will play right after, is extremely intriguing. Originally from Chicago, Paul Salva’s music is laden with influences of House and perhaps Juke! Yes, indeed. That’s exactly what I am amped to hear a little of. Also on the bill will be the Frosty Tone Crew of DROP D, THE VERDICT, DEMI GOD, and BIG BASHA. Back patio at DB’s is where its at, giving some meaning to the word Grove.

RUN DMT

9-12
$15/18+
TOWN BALROOM
681 main st. Buffalo, NY
I’m not quite sure if RUN DMT is constantly making fun of or if they are just taking full advantage of a million rollie-pollie kidos who want more and more of what they’re doling out. Coming up with hilarious genre names on SoundCloud like Meccalekkahinyhostep or Youthinrevolt. Whatever Parson and Lemiwinks are up to, it is working, because they sure are having fun, and gaining many fans along the way. They were the talk of Camp Bisco this past Summer. Apparently their set gartered attention and raged many new fans. I can’t wait to see them in my favorite venue in Buffalo! This will be an absolute mess as the HXLY and DJ BITTLE from the RIPROC squad are on local support duties. In the front room will be JESSE AARON and NICKY STEEZ as well. I definitely recommend checking out these up and comers blossom in a big room.

MUSIC IS ART::::::::::THE DJs

10a-10p
free for everyone
DELAWARE PARK
behind Albright Knox art gallery Buffalo, NY
Well another year has passed and another celebration of MUISC IS ART is upon us. This Saturday the event gets pushed back a little bit in location (because of the rear entrance and steps to the Albright Knox being closed, wtf) but remains unchanged in purpose and popularity. Steming from roots in the Allentown Art Festival, the Music is Art foundation’s first location for the celebration of music, this one-day festival became it’s own entity and blew-up when it moved to the rear of the art gallery/park. The idea is to represent as many local artists of every musical genre, and put on display their artistic talents. This years lineup of music will feature many DJs and Electronica acts; seemingly more that previous years. This could perhaps overshadow many different other musical artists not as well-represented in my opinion; there are two stages for bands (of every ilk) with nearly impossible 15 minute slots, whereas there are two stages dedicated to DJs with hour long slots, and a third stage split with dance troupes and electronic acts/DJs. What does that say? Obviously my tastes are catered to immensely; however, my opinion is the organizers may need to have a sharper axe, and focus more on indie-rock and underground rock and roll. And that’s not to say that the Dance and Electronica scene here is not extremely viable, because it is! I am a major proponent of that. You can find the full schedule and line-ups HERE. My recommendations are to check our PERCEPTOR, MARK KLOUD, LOKI, BROTHER BEAR, AREHOUSE, PAUL KEUNZI, SWAGGLEROCK, SUNGLASSES MIKE, BACON, MEDISON, TWIST, LOPRO, CUTLER, and BRANDON CHASE. Of course if you bounce back and forth between the DJ stages while checking out the many cool vendors and not-for-profits represented, you should be all good. Look for me from beyond the grave!
