At once lethargic and hypnotic, and by turns funky and implacable, Motopony emits some truly unique and hauntingly endearing sounds. Though the Washington-based quintet's appearance at the Ninth Ward tonight (341 Delaware Ave, 7pm, $9) somehow didn't get labeled as a “staff pick,” the group has quickly become one of our favorite in recent memory. Combining elements of country twang and subdued synth-pop beneath vocalist Daniel Blue's baritone croon, the whole is as chilling as it is beautiful. And with support from fellow infectious-folkers Monoculture, this show should be as much of a “must-see” for you as it is for us.
