Rochester, NY based Joywave has quickly been growing in popularity since their inception in early 2010. The band has arisen from the ashes of Rochester’s pop-punk staple, the Hoodies. After dropping their bassist, the band reformed to become a dreamy, electro pop quintet. Joywave’s mixtape, 77777, found a very receptive audience on Hype Machine, quickly becoming one of the most hearted tracks last spring. On 77777, Joywave samples a variety of bands ranging from LCD Soundsystem to Limp Bizkit, uniquely spinning each song to make it their own. If you are a fan of Miike Snow, Passion Pit, or Baths then you should check out Joywave. The band is playing tomorrow night (Friday) at Buffalo State College’s Assembly Hall in the Student Union with Raccoon Fighter. The show starts promptly at 9pm with tickets at the door for $5.
