Concert Review: Wildlife at Mohawk Place

I have a feeling Toronto indie band Wildlife won't remember their first live show in Buffalo as their most successful show of all time.... but this had nothing to do with the music and more the circumstances.  I was sad to see that I was one of eight people inside Mohawk Place Monday night. The combination of bad weather and non-existent promoting for the event has to be the reason behind the poor attendance... because the band was fantastic.

Wildlife put on a wildly energetic show despite the small crowd to perform for.  I had listened to their album Strike Hard, Young Diamond several times before attending the show and it was awesome to see the songs come alive. This band knows how to put on a show and even when a song would start off a little slower I knew by the end they'd be rocking out. On top of the bad weather and poor attendance, the smoke machine set off Mohawk Place's fire alarm. The band questioned whether they should continue playing and ultimately decided to go on with the show (good choice).  They smartly started the song over to go with the beat of the piercing and endless beeping of the alarm.

The band asked if we minded if they practiced on us by playing a song they haven't played live in a while.  It ended up being a cover of "Dancing in the Dark" by Bruce Springsteen.  Highlights of the night for me was their performances of "Killing for Fun", "Drunken Heart" and "Sea Dreamer".  I think I missed them play my favorite track "Stand in the Water" but thankfully they are returning to Mohawk Place next month.  This brings me to my final point and main purpose of this post.... COME SEE WILDLIFE! Help me show them that Buffalo does in fact have good taste in music and knows how to enjoy it. Keep an eye on buffaBLOG to find out when they will be back and in the meantime enjoy the videos (sorry for the poor quality!) from Monday nights show.
