TSOL frontman writes disturbing memoir; An American Demon

Ok, so this book actually came out a few monthes ago but it's been recieving some pretty heavy praise as of late so I felt compelled to write about it. For those not in the know, T.S.O.L (True Sounds of Liberty) are an infamous Southern California punk band, considered innovators of the genre combining goth horror and violent speed, and perhaps some of the wildest psychopaths in rock'n'roll history.

Jack Grisham in particular, the enigmatic frontman of the group, is legendary for tales of fighting, drugging, crossdressing and deliquency. Watch any documentary on the history of punk rock and he is bound to show up and people are bound to say they were scared of him. Jack's had an interesting life since then. He's battled personal demons and made it through to the other side. He's now a licensed hypnotherapist, splitting his time with his band and recently churned out his memoirs, An American Demon.

I cannot in good faith recommend or not recommend the book. Truth is I haven't read it yet (damn you online purchases!). Judging by fan and critical response though, I think it's pretty safe to say it's going to be an engrossing read. Without giving too much away, I will say that there are those who believe Grisham is an evil, EVIL man and there are those who think what he's done approaches sainthood. His past would lead you to believe he is the worst kind of person, but a present look at the man would have you believe otherwise. Judge for yourself, but do it quickly. There are limited copies of this book and it could go any day now.

  1. DAMN! I had no idea he made this but I gota check it out. My drummer who knows everything bout southern cali hardcore would always tell me about crazy Jack stories he's heard. Like the Bad Religion lyrics in You Don't Belong go, "Jack wore a skirt but he knew how to scrap!" Love it!!
