Concert Review: Brutal Truth

Braving the cold last night, my friend Brian and I set out to Club Infinity to check out Brutal Truth. This was special for two reasons. Number one, the grind kings are one of two metal bands I've always longed to see live (the other is Pantera; unfortunately that will never happen). It was also special because I've been a slave to school lately and haven't seen as many shows as I would like. Buffalo's had a boom in great metal shows in recent times and I've missed out of a bunch of them. I wasn't going to miss Brutal Truth.

We got there at the beginning of Avulsions set, missing Liquified Guts and Resist Control (sorry guys). Avulsion always delivers. Their caustic blend of death, grind and, at times, hardcore, has set them apart from the herd. Last night was no exception. Aarons taunts are always a welcome staple at any Avulsion show and with a long, LONG history you have to respect the fact that they're still doing it (and still killing).

After a short break Brutal Truth hit stage and it was well worth the wait for a long-time fan. The band played a good mix of new, End Time, material along with older cuts from the early days. In addition to being absolutely brutal, theirs is a fun stage show. Kevin was partying, drunk and joking, and their drummer was an absolute maniac, screaming and contorting, all whilst destroying the kit with thunderous blastbeats and fills for days. Brutal Truth's catalog speaks for itself. From Extreme Conditions...to Sounds of the Animal Kingdom to End Time your going to get the heaviest metal known to man. This was a one-off show but I'm hoping the band returns in the near future. If they do, consider me there.
