Being a born and bred Buffalonian with music loving parents I have been listening to Ani DiFranco since I was 10. At first I really just loved the fact that I was allowed to play music with swear words but it quickly grew into a true appreciation of a true Buffalo talent. Honestly if you live in Buffalo and have never seen her perform (this goes for men too) then its a true shame. Its been three years since her last release and tomorrow Ani's newest album ¿Which Side Are You On? comes out. I just got a copy of the album last night so it will take a lot more listening to it to really know how I feel, but upon first listen I'm more than happy. If you have been a fan for a long time then you'll agree that its not the same Ani were used to, but because her music is so personal its only natural that it would change. ¿Which Side Are You On? focuses a lot on politics and public issues. The album was recorded in her studio in New Orleans and its evident throughout that she was greatly influenced by the music down there. The album even features Ivan and Cyril Neville and a host of New Orleans based horn players. The album explores a lot of new sounds to support the traditional sound of Ani's voice and guitar. Ani's advice for listening to this album is “just listen, drop your idea of who is singing and what you already know they're saying, and go somewhere else, open yourself up to a new story.” In true Ani fashion, she is going on a nationwide tour and hopefully making a stop at her very own babeville stage on April 22.
