Actually, truth be told, I
don’t spin out (I knocked on wood as I typed that). I know the rules. Don’t panic. Be cool. Ease
in or ease out of it. Use the Force. Yes, I’m a lifelong Western New Yorker. Driving
in bad winter weather is what it is. Now, I myself to
take the good with the bad, and as a music fan I’ve discovered that driving in
winter with a great soundtrack , in good or bad weather, can be awesome.
Now that winter's officially here (for now), here's my favorite winter driving
music:
Sigur Ros is my absolute favorite winter music, hands down. Whether it’s a whiteout, a winter wonderland, or it’s night, zero, and the light from streetlights reach vertically up into the sky- Sigur Ros is the ideal music for driving in Buffalo during the winter (or anytime to be perfectly honest with you). And if the shit does hit the fan while you’re driving, their music is so cinematic it will feel like you’re in a movie… thus, if you act accordingly (like you’re in a movie and you follow the rules), everything will work out fine.
Even when Sigur Ros rocks out it’s usually after a glorious buildup, so instead of just driving around in winter you’re triumphantly.
Staying chilled out yet alert is important, but hell, it’s cold out, so it’s also important to think about the sun and to occasionally kick out the occasional jam while keeping both hands on the wheel. That’s why listening to Wavves 2nd album King Of The Beach during the dead of winter always hits the spot, especially if I’m driving on a tight schedule. Spacey, clever, and lousy with propulsive killer surf rock guitar riffs, King of the Beach is also gloriously sun drenched, something that is genuinely good for the soul during these (sometimes) cold winter days and nights.
But enough about me. Come on Western New Yorkers, what's your favorite winter driving music for spinning out or watching other spin out in our winter wonderland? Comment away.
