The Drum Machine Report

One month down, eleven to go. Days are getting longer, and this unseasonable Winter weather has thrown everyone off-center. People are depressed because of the muck. I don’t blame them. It can be difficult to preserve one’s self during the doldrums of the Winter season. And its not like the normal Buffalo season when nearly all of the atoms of expressive matter come to a frozen stand-still. The low-energy is writhing around in the sewers like a serpent ready to bring us all down. Stay above the surface, and you will be rewarded.

Buffalo is already the recipient of good fortune and good news as good shows keep getting announced. Just announced was Green Velvet at Rendezvous in the Statler on Friday, March 2nd. And with the string of shows coming up starting this month through the Spring, the scene will find it’s chi once again.

Last weekend I was once again drawn to the happenings at the Cosmopolitan Art Gallery for Distractions 003: Art and Abstractions. Such a cool vibe as always in the rundown old Masonic Lodge bar on the East Side. And Kudos to the Artists, who’s works I thoroughly enjoyed. Pro-tip: check out small events, got to plays and art openings!

This weekend in Buffalo is going to be badass too, and these are the events that the the drum machine report recommends that you attend:

friday 2/3

EMPIRE GRILL

1435 hertel ave. Buffalo, NY

They stress the coolness of the “mature atmosphere,” but for me its about taking a responsible drive off the beaten path. Heading to Hertel. Truly it is a cool spot, not the best restaurant, but on nights when Igloo takes over, lovers of house music go there to party it up. This installment, along with hosts BRANDON CHASE and PAUL KUENZI, they are bringing in RICH KISHITA of the NuRoc crew in Rochester to spin Tribal and Tech-House. Though he seems to have a really broad range! Also PETER PIZZUTELLI will be opening.

saturday 2/4

CASPA/FRICTION

8p-1a

$20/all ages

TOWN BALLROOM

681 Main st. Buffalo, NY

Since everyone has such a boner for CASPA, and don’t get me wrong I do too, we need to mention the other headliner on the bill, DJ FRICTION (the Drum n Bass one) because he is opening. Really these two artists could have separate shows, but why not consummate the marriage of Dubstep and Drum n Bass further!? FRICTION has some of my favorite DnB remixes and he is truly one trying to fuse the style back into today’s world of Electronic music.

CASPA is the Cockney thug. His Grime is the grit of the streets in the West-End. You can’t say that you like Dubstep if you don’t know who he is, by the name alone. Let’s see what he has to offer Buffalo in live performance as a DJ. Both gents are making a rare stop in the BLO so check it out.
