Just Announced: John Mayer

I definitely got laughed at today when I asked the buffaBLOG staff of writers if anyone wanted to cover the announcement of the upcoming John Mayer show in Buffalo.... I have no doubts this is a show worthy of some buffaBLOG press. Sure, John Mayer has come off as a total dbag in the media but that doesn't mean he isn't a great guitar player.  If amazing musicians like Herbie Hancock, Eric Clapton, BB King, John Scofield, Kanye West, etc are willing to collaborate with Mayer, then he is obviously doing something right.  I've always been under the suspicion that his poppier songs were made just to get him established so that he could play music that he identified more with like tracks you can hear on his John Mayer Trio albums that tend to be bluesier.  Unfortunately, the single "Shadow Days" off his new album coming out this year sounds like he is going more country... but you never know.

Regardless of how you feel about John Mayer, you should know that he is coming to Shea's Performing Arts Center April 21st. Tickets go on sale this Saturday. If you're a fan of blues music, trust me and watch this video!

  1. I didn't laugh at you. I just rolled my eyes so hard that I almost lost my balance.

  2. John Mayer is the Tom Brady of guitar: everyone hates him but they can't deny his talent. Anyone who does is just talking out of their ass. Although, (and unfortunately) Tom Brady is better at football than John Mayer is at guitar... I hate Tom Brady.

  3. Yeah, I really don't get why he wastes his talent making shitty pop songs sometimes. His bluesy stuff is undeniably good.

  4. I like Shadow Days and I think the video for it is awesome! If you haven't seen it yet, here's the link. :) http://www.vevo.com/artist/john-mayer?source=instantsearch&orderbyrecent=false
