Picking Up the Slack for MTV: Korallreven

One of my favorite releases of 2011, An Album by Korallreven proves you don't need silk sequin shirts and a ponytail to enjoy lush, atmospheric music (but it helps). Prior to kicking off their first US tour, the Swedish due have released a new video for their song "Sa Sa Samoa".  The track was inspired by the Catholic choirs heard by band member Marcus Joons while on a trip to the island of Samoa. Assisted by vocals from Julianne Barwick and a Samoan Children's choir, Korallreven have rendered a beautifully organic soundscape to accompany their own layers of synths and balearic rhythms. The video seems deceptively simple, but maintains a certain level of mystery that I haven't been able to shake since first watching it.
