In the early 2000's, rock'n'roll went through something of a resurgence. Groups like the Strokes, Hot Hot Heat, and the Hives were suddenly all the buzz and people couldn't get enough of that raw, stripped down sound. The more garage the better.
Buffalo had its own little explosion around this time. Bobo got back together, the Priests (Rochester) were the hottest act playing Mohawk and Vice Transmission were becoming contenders for band of the moment. And then there were the Bloody Hollies. Straight up, blues-garage punk rock, their singer, Wes, would light up the stage with his frantic blues on fire riffs while screaming into the mic, as the band thrashed in the background, fueling and antagonizing the audience. BH were exciting.
Several years back the group moved to San Diego and have since refined their sound. It's more mature now, with the addition of keyboards, but no less exciting as the roots are still firmly planted in the rock tradition.
Tonight the group plays (ahem, kills it) at Mohawk Place (7pm), their original homebase. I know it's a Sunday and you're probably all partied out, this is a show you don't want to miss. If you like rock'n'roll the way it used to be played, you really don't have a choice. Opening the show are London vs. New York and the Etchings.
