Tonight: Sleepy Sun

Bay area quintet Sleepy Sun will be playing at Mohawk Place tonight, touring behind their third LP, Spine Hits, which came out on April 10th. The psychedelic rockers have toured with Arctic Monkeys and The Black Angels in the past, and their sound has been compared, almost annoyingly, to that of Zeppelin and Sabbath. Don’t get me wrong, their sound can be pretty much summed up as unadulterated stoner rock, but there seems to be a more topographical approach to their songwriting that brings an intricate and focused take on an all-to-often predictable brand of pop-psychedelia. Touring with Sleepy Sun are White Hills, who have just released their new album, Frying on this Rock, and by no coincidence subscribe to a similar style of fuzzed-out space rock as their tour-mates. Also, the guitar-hazed, Buffalo buzz-band, Mordaunt Sisters, will be opening, so make sure to arrive early! Tickets are $12 at the door. The show starts at 8.
