“Same old thing in brand new
drag comes sweeping into view,” Bowie belts on the 1980 fan-favorite "Teenage
Wildlife". While his own career has certainly had enough costume and genre
changes to make the lyric work on a personal level, the line also encompasses
something of the influence Ziggy Stardust, The Thin White Duke, Aladdin Sane
and the rest of them have had on us. His shape-shifting nature is always
highlighted but his universality often isn’t. Tonight at Nietzsche’s is ‘Sound
and Re-Vision: A Tribute to David Bowie,’ an evening to bring together some
great local talent to sing from one man’s song catalogue, all in different
kinds of drag. From Erie Lackawanna Railroad’s bluegrass renditions to Sea Snake Vs.’s indie rock interpretations, the night should be pretty varied,
despite being about the same old thing. You know, the way Bowie would have
wanted. Starts at 10; Five Dollar cover.
