Walk The Moon releases self-titled sophomore album

From the first 10 seconds I heard from Ohio based indie outfit Walk The Moon, their infectious synth wave melodies had already seeped their way into my brain, never to escape. Walk The Moon have been on the scene for a good couple of years now, putting out their first EP, The Anthem, in 2008 and steadily developed a slow growing but devoted fan base across the country. Around 2011, however, they started to grab the attention of a larger audience, being featured in an edition of SPIN magazine and earning spot on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. It’s easy to see why this band has such universal appeal, uniting music listeners with material that bridges the gap between synth/indie revival and radio friendly pop. With such catchy and energetic walls of sound, each song of theirs blends a lush soundscape with simple but gripping passion.

Walk The Moon released their self-titled album just last week, received warmly by most listeners. The new album offered some of their previously released works with new material as well, but the album felt fresh as a whole. Tracks like "Quesadilla" and "Shiver Shiver" offer a childlike exuberance, balanced only by more ballad-esque songs like "Iscariot" and "I Can Lift A Car," showing an increased maturity expected by any band’s sophomore release. Known for their high energy live shows, the band performs all of their shows in face paint, and makes sure to bring enough for their fans as well. If I only had one word to describe this group, it would be fun; Walk The Moon’s self-titled album makes music that evokes such a happy and energetic energy that it’s not hard to believe all they want is to bring the listener in on the party, too.
