Artist Spotlight: First Aid Kit

The lullaby acoustics and mostly hopeless lyrics sung by Johanna and Klara Söderberg, the two Swedish sisters that form First Aid Kit, will bring those repressed memories of unrequited love to the surface.  Imagine Bright Eyes but with a little more of a feminine folk feel.  It's the type of music to put on when feeling deeply insightful, but don't necessarily want to talk to anyone.  Their perfection of close harmony is what makes the despairing voices of these women addictive.

Relatively new, they started their music partnership in October of 2007.  Under record labels Wichita Recordings (UK) and Jagadamba Records, they have thus far released two albums, one EP and a handful of singles.  Amongst their influences are Bright Eyes, Elliot Smith, and The Louvin Brothers.  The troubled lyrics from Elliot Smith, the wavering vocals from Bright Eyes' Connor Oberst, and the traditional country woe from The Louvin Brothers are all reminiscent in their songs.  If you know either or all, you'll know what to expect from First Aid Kit.

Explore, especially if you're feeling a little lost or romantically troubled.

And if you like what you hear, see them at Town Ballroom Monday, July 30.  Tickets bought in advance are only $13, you can buy them here.

"If you've got visions of the past
Let them follow you down
They'll come back to you some day
And I found myself attached to this railroad track
But I'll come back to you some day"
