Man, the local High School Battle of the Band circuit is really buzzing right now. If you told me at the beginning of the year that those words would be coming out of my mouth (or keyboard), I would have snarkily dismissed you with a condescending hand wave, but it's true. Local garage rock five piece, Brimstone Blondes, sent us an e-mail introducing themselves this past week and we liked it so much we decided to write about. These youngsters recently received the judge’s prize at the Music Is Art Battle of the Bands and if I had cable I would have totally checked out their set featured on CW23 this past week. Their track “My Neighbor Looks Like Christian Bale” is a fun, jangle pop/surf-punk ode to a neighbor who looks kind of like Christian Bale… or Mark Wahlberg. Maybe they are cousins or something. Brimstone Blondes’ lo-fi, light-hearted introduction is reminiscent of Talking Heads, Elvis Costello, or The Exploding Hearts. Check it out below.
