Though only appearing on the radar a little over a year ago, MANSIONS ON THE MOON has made an impact with their image and more importantly their sound. When Discovery put out their self titled LP, some dubbed it the future of Pop. It seems as though MOTM is picking up where they had left off. What’s ironically fitting is that both Discovery and MOTM were born out of other bands. The great thing about this band is that they are pushing the idea further. Their latest offering is an EP titled Lightyears. It is available for download if you “Like” it on Facebook. Self-classified on Soundcloud as Chillwave, I find the release to be more like Experimental-Pop. Like exploratory thoughts on a Sunday morning, their subtle use of dissonance among the layering of sounds is choice. Much of their music is available for free including their first offering which was a Mixtape produced by Diplo and Benzi called ‘Paradise Falls.’ It’s good to see that these talented musicians are making music that is both their own while warping the sounds of Popular music and creating a blend of both new and familiar colors. Also performing, and getting a little “Know Your Opener” nod, are Philadelphia band NICOS GUN. Fans of Of Montreal and Prince will not want to miss this bizarre quartet of Future Funkers. And opening the show is Buffalo’s VICTORY FOR POLAND, who will be performing at the buffaBLOG Broadway Market Rooftop Extravaganza on July 28th as part of the 2012 Buffalo Infringement Festival. Tonight’s show is at SOUNDLAB 110 Pearl st. Buffalo, NY. Tickets are $12 in advance. 16+ admitted. Doors are at 8:00 pm.
