Dubbed “the new Biggie Smalls” by fellow rapper Danny Brown,
Brooklyn’s Mr. Muthafuckin’ eXquire brings his rhymes to Soundlab tonight. The
MC has explained his name as a merger of intelligence and ignorance made clear
through his range of hyper-literate name-dropping of writers like Fyodor
Dostoyevsky and Howard Zinn in one verse, to writing a hook around drunk
driving on a Wednesday. eX gained national attention in 2011
after releasing Lost in Translation and
perhaps the year's best hip-hop remix with The Last Huzzah with guest spots from fellow New Yorkers El-P, Das
Racist, and Despot. Bringing New York style back to hip-hop, the rapper represents
his culture and gives his audience a glimpse into his life in the kind of
unfiltered way that has characterized the storytelling ability of so many of
the genre’s legends. Delivering genuine performances that remind us how
powerful a statement hip-hop can make, this is a show you don’t want to miss.
Special guests Dr. Ooo & C.U.F.X. open the show. Tickets are $12 at the
door. Show starts at 10pm.
Koolie High and Mario Bee open too!
