The Smoking Popes are one of the best examples of indie-punk done right. Extremely catchy, melodic riffs, crooning vocals and blistering harmonies. I sometimes picture Morrissey singing for a pop-punk group when I listen to them. Look no further than "I Need You Around" for flashes of brilliance.

Tonight they're playing at Mohawk Place along with the Screaming Jeans and others (7pm). You owe it to yourself to be there. $10 gets you in.
