Cooking with Thoughts: The Finitude of Music


A recent video on VSauce claims, using mathematics to prove it, that music is, in fact, finite. As in, we technically can expend all the musical possibilities in the cosmic songbook even if the human race will be extinct before we do.

Unsurprisingly, however, the insanely thorough researchers at VSauce also concluded that humans are attuned to enjoy hearing the same melodies over and over, century after century, and need not fear the reaper of music.

Have we, through the lens of our tastes, made music even more finite than it need be?
