A lot of emcees try to trash talk their ways to the top. In a pool of fighting fish, it’s the piranha that gets the prize, right? Not always. Usually humility and dedication does. A few months ago, I wrote a post on the always grateful Prime Example, a group of local emcees who have dedicated themselves to bringing back real hip hop to Buffalo. They’re back with their first video “Superhero,” off of their latest EP, Modern Marvels, which is scheduled to drop December 1st and will be free for download on their website. What I can say about the video is this: it definitely demonstrates that today’s young bucks sho’ kno’ how to partay (Am I right, am I right? K, that’s enough.) Beyond that, it demonstrates that there will always be an inflow of new talent, and each new generation of talent has an individual voice fostered by their own times and unique circumstances. This is Prime Example’s voice. (PS – Shout out to the Incredible Hulk for making a cameo, studly as ever, that Hulk.)
