Artist Spotlight: Françoiz Breut

The snow may or may not be falling where ever you are, but you’re still sitting indoors watching it. In the quiet of winter neat piles are just as mesmerizing as the snowfall itself. For me, Françoiz Breut harnesses that feeling of being mesmerized, as her French rooted moody pop gives the I’m-falling-down-the-Alice-In-Wonderland-hole effect. Breut very much pushed French female vocals into a global atmosphere, fronting the Nouvelle Scène Française, a melancholy spin on French female pop in the 90’s.

As I couldn’t choose just one Breut, I’ve provided two tracks to listen to, both of which are from La Chirurgie Des Sentiments (2012). BXL Bleutte and Marie-Lise are examples of how Breut forms a murky and dreary sense of pop, but still keeps the overall pace of her songs enchanting.

Françoiz Breut earns an A in my book because it's hard to mix sultry with pop tastefully, especially while drawing me into a dreamworld.
