Picking Up The Slack For MTV: Dropkick Murphys

Well the season is upon us so this week I am looking at "The Season's Upon Us," by Dropkick Murphys. This modern Christmas song will be featured on the punk rock bands upcoming album, Signed and Sealed in Blood, to be released in January. The Christmas classics we are used to tell of gatherings that sound sweet and innocent, like a description of a hallmark card. This song, however, tells of the modern Christmas that many of us are probably familiar with, involving trash talking about family members and drinking alcohol to deal with them.

The video is of a family gathering described in the song, and features entertaining chaos from mischievous kids to pervy older relatives. The band's Irish roots are highlighted throughout the video including traditionally dressed Irish Celtic dancers and more humorously a poster of John Kennedy hung on the living room wall. Being from South Buffalo and from what I saw around this time of year, I can verify that this is a typical Irish family Christmas.
