Merchandise - "Anxiety's Door:" Mixing grinding industrial instrumentals with clear, crooning, vocals, Merchandise's new song brings to mind a slightly less theatrical early to mid 80's Sisters of Mercy.

Verity Susman - "To Make You Afraid:" Susman is the former lead singer of Electrelane. "To Make You Afraid" is a bouncy, frigid, glistening song that centers around Susman's distant voice and a bright beat and synth. At one point, everything drops away to underscore Susman's voice as it rises to a high pitched howl. A great song for the chipper goth in all of us (or is that just me?).

Foxygen - "No Destruction:" On a completely different note, Foxygen have released another song off of their upcoming We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace and Magic. Really quickly, have I ever mentioned how much I don't like long album titles? It just seems kind of obnoxious. I mean you try having a conversation about music and have to discuss a longer album title. Anyway, Foxygen directly channel the jaunty later Velvet Underground with Bob Dylan's vocals on "Positively 4th Street," without managing to sound too derivative. I mean, it is a little derivative, but fun nonetheless.


The Men - "Electric:" Earlier this week, The Men announced that they would be releasing a new album in March, their 3rd in as many years. "Electric" is the first single and further streamlines the group's sound. This is a long way from the cacaphony of Leave Home, and is fast paced and stirring.

Generationals - "Spinoza:" Textbook but good indie pop from New Orleans band, Generationals. Nothing groundbreaking but I am enjoying it all the same. For better or worse, I am partial to this sound, so I am forcing it upon you this week (probably most weeks).
