buffaBLOG Road Trip: Now, Now

The last time Now, Now visited our fair city, they played a last-minute show at Sugar City with Mansions and Slingshot Dakota.  That was the kind of intimate show that I look back upon fondly: a DIY venue, scrambling to get someone to take your shift at work, driving through sleet, and stepping in a giant misleading pile of slush right before you enter the doors.  I guess its only fair that this time, the Minnesota-based three piece will be visiting the Bug Jar in Rochester.

That's totally okay with me though, I'm sure the hour long drive will be worth it.  I considered their newest release, the twelve-song dark pop Threads, to be my album of the year in 2012.  With heavy themes of insomnia and the winter months appearing throughout the record, it's not hard to see why a night-owl Buffalonian (that goes for you Rochester folks too) like myself would identify so heavily with the lush, brooding songs on Threads.  In fact, "Prehistoric" might be one of my favorite songs ever - "I would trade this sleep for you in a heartbeat/ but this weather will not lift/ it leaves us shouting into cliffs without an echo."

Either way, they'll be visiting the Bug Jar tonight.  Doors are at 7:30.  $10 presale, $12 at the door.  See you there!
