Just Announced: Andrew W.K.

When Andrew W.K. first emerged back in 2001 from what may have been the best party ever, he became known for a couple things.  First, this album cover, and second, the guy liked to party.  A lot.  His debut album, I Get Wet, was full of arena rock anthems,  including "It's Time to Party," "Party Til You Puke," and "Fun Night."  You get the idea.  Even if you never listened to a single note of his music, you can tell that this guy liked to have fun.  At the time, I wasn't sure if Andrew W.K. was for real.  Like, is this guy serious?  Is he in on the joke?  Not to mention that the guy was incredibly engaging, showed no signs of irony, and seemed like someone who you always wanted to hang out with, no matter how exhausting that might be.  He was a blast and no one was having more fun than him.

While his name has not come up music wise for a couple years (his last album was released in 2009), the guy seems to pop up from time to time, whether he is delivering the weather forecast, hosting his own television show, and even maybe, possibly becoming a State Ambassador?  Just a bit earlier today, our friend Cory Perla at Artvoice announced on his blog that Andrew W.K. will be making a stop at Soundlab this spring on Monday, April 15th.  Prices have yet to be released.  I am fascinated by this and am in no way going to miss this show.  Curiosity alone will get me to shell out $20 or so.  You should too.
