Picking Up The Slack For MTV: 50 Cent

Good morning. For this week’s installment we’re bringing you 50 Cent’s newest video, “We Up,” which illustrates in disturbingly accurate detail the plight of today’s inner-city youth, and could very well turn out to be a catalyst for social change.

Well this is awkward. Damn auto-correct. The above sentence should read, 50 Cent’s newest video, “We Up,” which illustrates in disturbingly accurate detail what happens when Fiddy slips on a tux and invites the ladies over.

He sticks with the winning formula in this one, folks: girls in cocktail dresses slowly bending over, random shots of a nice white car against a clean white background, and girls in outfits I didn’t know existed holding bottles of champagne in each hand while dropping low; you know, a farcical video that has nothing at all to do with the lyrics. It’s classic Fiddy.

But two things make this video special. Kendrick Lamar gives extra credibility to any song he appears on, and “We Up” is no exception. Except, well, he’s not in the video. Instead, during his verse, random images of him appear. Weird, right? Is he dead or something? As it turns out, according to Fiddy in a recent interview, the video we are watching is a trailer, because apparently that is a thing now. There are now trailers for music videos.

And we can’t discuss the video without at least mentioning those Louboutin's. Good luck trying to find those in Macy’s: “Well, I do like these Louboutin's, but I’d be a fool if I didn’t ask…do you have the ones with the spikes? No? Okay, thanks, I’ll just go watch ‘We Up’ one more time and keep dreaming.”
