The album artwork and tracklist were recently published,
along with a video for Track 2, “Full of Fire.” Pitchfork called it a “trailer for the album,” which sounds a
little dramatic; after all, could a nine minute video really show us what Shaking the Habitual is all about?
The “Full of Fire” music video, made by fellow Swede Marit Östberg, is a breathtakingly open
depiction of cozy city living juxtaposed with so-called underground postures
and relationships. The images perfectly mirror Karin Dreijer Andersson’s magnificently
deep screeching, which is layered inside and out brother Olof Dreijer’s
pounding, cold-sweat beats.
I’ve closely followed The Knife and Fever Ray—Karin’s solo
project—since I discovered them (oh, when did I meet old whatshisname…?). And I’m
always excited by the ever-changing, funky-dark, winsome nature of their
music. If Shaking the Habitual trails on in
a similar fashion, I think we have a masterpiece on the way.
