Listener's Digest: Hudson Mohawke - "Pleasure Principle"

TNGHT’s self-titled EP was a siren cutting through the wilderness last year. It filled its eighteen minutes to excess, overbearing you with speaker-rattlers and beats that could swallow rappers whole. Hudson Mohawke, half of the producer team that makes up TNGHT, finally mastered (it came out as a limited edition vinyl in 2011) and digitally released a Janet Jackson edit, “Pleasure,” today. He gives Jackson a new start, placing her alongside contemporary dance-floor divas Jessie Ware and Aluna Francis of Alunageorge. The result is massive, its cavity inducing synth runs overcome by Mohawke’s maximalist drums.
