Listener's Digest: Kode9 - "Kan"

Kode9, boss of London’s future-shocked record label Hyperdub, could just sit on his excellent artist roll and call it a day. Going strong since 2004, the label has released two of the most important records of the past decade, Burial’s Untrue and Laurel Halo’s Quarantine, but Kode9’s own productions are just as integral to the shape of electronic music to come. Following Hyperdub’s release of footwork king DJ Rashad’s “Rollin,” “Kan,” B-Side to his first new music in two years, “Xingfu Lu,” Kode9 dips his toes into footwork’s stuttering and fractured landscape. “Kan” is relentless, barely letting in light through layers of synths and drum hits, it begins like something out of Vangelis’ Blade Runner soundtrack but hurtles towards a trans-Atlantic now.
