Fans of O'Brother will appreciate this new solo release from singer/guitarist Tanner Merritt. Whereas O'Brother writes grinding, melodic dirges, Merritt has taken this opportunity to release some not-so-O'Bro appropriate songs. "Wretched Things" (see below) still has some of the hallmarks of O'Brother - fuzzed out baritone guitars, crazy effects, etc... But some of the songs on this new offering, entitled Doubt are straight up folk rock. Either way, "Wretched Things" has the best of both worlds - dirty guitars, fuzzy synths, and a constant tremolo pulse.
Supporting this album allows O'Brother to keep plugging away at their relentless tour cycle. Speaking of which, they're fresh off of a tour with alt-rock giants Alice in Chains... maybe Dave Grohl will try to up his cool factor again and take them out next.
