"Buffalo is essentially a bunch of musicians," says Craig McDorman, lead singer and rhythm guitarist of So Far So Good, a band of devious punk-pop purveyors prepared to release their very first EP out into Buffalo's musician-filled streets on May 22.
Joined by drummer Ryan Urbank, lead guitarist Jeff Foley and bassist Rob Buskirk, McDorman has waited five years for So Far So Good to record and complete their debut record. "We're pretty excited and can't wait to do it all again," he says, "We already have a whole other CD's worth of music to release."
The group's members met over a half-decade ago while working shifts at
T.G.I. Friday's (where a defaced sign inspired their distinct logo) and have since played hundreds of shows throughout Western New York. Their intense live performances have been described as "wasted and crazy" and their EP seeks to capture the joyful insanity audiences have come to anticipate.
"We have regular people coming out to our shows from all over and plugging us on Facebook," says McDorman, recognizing the importance of his fan base.
The band's forthcoming EP was produced by sometime Goo Goo Dolls' collaborator Armand Petri. "It was arduous, long and daunting," McDorman admits, "But we're more than ready to do it again."
Ryan Urbank credits his talented producer for pushing the act away from being "Blink-182 wannabes," leading to a "turning point in the band's sound." Group members also cite numerous nineties alternative acts, including Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rage Against the Machine and Third Eye Blind, as stylistic influences.
So Far So Good are current participants in Artvoice's annual BOOM contest. The CD release party for their EP will be held on Wednesday, May 22 at Pearl Street Grill & Brewery.
