Buffalo venues have got it rough lately. The latest victim, Soundlab, will throwing it's last show for the foreseeable future this evening, joining the ranks of Mohawk Place and Club Infinity as local venues closing their doors over the last few months. Will 2013 be know as the year the Buffalo live music scene died? Maybe not, but dramatics aside, this trend is certainly unsettling for a scene that seemed to rise to another level last year.
All is not lost for the Pearl St. basement venue though. Hopes are high that the space will be reopen early this fall, so maybe calling this the last show is being a bit premature, at least we hope. Philadelphia's Banned Books will help the venue go out in style prior to the hiatus. The trio's jagged melodies and off-beat vocal harmonies give off a lo-fi, Dirty Projectors vibe. Electro dance duo UVB-76 and punk act Pang, who also serves as the house band of the Jungle Gym, will provide local support. Music kicks off this evening at 8pm. Soundlab is asking for donations to get you through the door. 3-8 bucks will do just fine.
