In the world of technical metal, none are more respected than Dillinger Escape Plan. With origins in the late nineties hardcore scene, DEP immediately distinguished themselves as pioneers and innovators, constructing a complex, interconnected web of angular dissonance, and thunderous ferocity. The math metal genre was still in its infancy and DEP took it to bold new heights, stretching the boundaries of its tired formulas, and expanding into uncharted territory. Look no further than "43% Burnt," one of the all time heaviest displays of focused aggression put to record. Simply put, they were light years ahead of their time.
Since that time, millions of bands have attempted to emulate the DEP sound, and for my money, I can't name a single one that even comes close. Tonight, the deal deal Holyfield is knocking at our doorsteps. DEP, along with the Faceless and Royal Thunder, will be playing Town Ballroom ($19, 7pm). You should probably go, if only to get your face melted by pummeling soundwaves. Bring earplugs, and don't say you weren't warned...

The Faceless and Royal Thunder should be great too. Faceless have technical chops to stand with anyone. Royal Thunder are sort of an odd fit given their doom leanings, but I hear the singer kills it live. Should be awesome
super small crowd last night, really disappointed that there weren't more people. Also no faceless?!
Very disappointed with the turn out, although Royal Thunder was a great surprise. The show seemed ill promoted and the lineup didn't seem to generate much interest at all. Smaller venue next time? Assuming there is a next time after that show..
