Johnny Dowd was once described as Nick Cave with a hangover and I couldn't think of a more apt description. His broken folk hymns are somber in the Leonard Cohen sense, but pack a bit more grit and wallop, enthusiastically sinister, dirty as dirt.
Tonight he's playing at the Vault ($10) along with TMMC and Tom Stahl. Something tells me he's going to shake that place to its foundation. Get down and dirty. Shows at 8.
